The baby boy was named Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia who is now popularly known as the action hero, stuntman of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar. He hails from Amritsar in Punjab, India though he was raised in Delhi Chandni Chowk. Akshay belongs to a middle class Punjabi household where his father is a government employee. He showed signs of a performer since he was in school. He was recognized and known for his dance. When he shifted in Mumbai, he got educated at Don Bosco School and Khalsa College. He went to Bangkok to learn Martial arts and when he returned to Mumbai he used to teach the same. He also worked as a chef in Bangkok to earn his living. The veteran actor made his debut in 1991 from the film Saugandh (1991). The movie was followed by, Dancer (1991) in the same year. In the following year of 1992, he worked on three movies namely, Mr.Bond (1992), Khiladi (1992), and Deedar (1992). Akshay Kumar career graph showed a growth as he did 5 movies in 1993, which were Ashaant (1993), Dil Ki Baazi (1993), Kayda Kanoon (1993), Waqt Humara Hai (1993) and Sainik (1993). His performance in his past movies queued the directors in front of his house. Akshay did 12 movies in the year 1994. The movies being Elaan (1994) Yash Chopra Yeh Dillagi (1994), Jai Kishen (1994), Mohra (1994), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Amanat (1994), Ikke Pe Ikka (1994), Suhaag (1994), Nazar Ke Samne (1994), Zakhmi Dil (1994), Zaalim (1994), Hum Hain Bemisaal (1994). He was known to take up action roles until he signed YEH DILLAGI (1994). He also got nominated in Filmfare as Best Actor for his role in Yeh Dillagi where he played Vijay Saigal and worked with Kajol and Saif Ali Khan. He played a romantic role in the movie, quite different from his usual Khiladi and action man sort of roles. Apart from doing big banner movies and appearing on the silver screen, Akshay Kumar has also done a show on small screen. He hosted Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi in its first and second year. Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi of Bollywood has received number of film awards in his career. Along with them, he won number of dignitary awards. In 2004 Rajiv Gandhi Award honored him for his Outstanding achievement in Bollywood. In 2008 he got Honorary Doctorate of Law by the University of Windsor in Ontario, Canada for his outstanding work in the film industry and contribution to social work. He was also Named Sexiest Man Alive by People (India) magazine in 2008. He was awarded Padma Shri, India fourth highest civilian award from the Government of India in 2009 and he was among the 10 recipients of the IIFA FICCI Frames Awards for the Most Powerful Entertainers of the Decade in the same year. He was also awarded the highest Japanese honor of Katana and a sixth degree Black Belt in Kuyukai Gojuryu Karate in 2009. He was one among the 15 international celebrities who have been invited for the Olympics torchbearer rally to Canada in 2009. Akshay Kumar was linked up with several of his colleges including Shilpa Shetty and Raveena Tandon. The rumor has it that he was married and divorced to the young and sexy actress, Shilpa Shetty. He was engaged twice to the beautiful actress Twinkle Khanna, daughter of the veteran actor, Rajesh Khanna, and lovely actress, Dimple Kapadia. He was married to Twinkle Khanna on January, 14, 2001.
