Making Sense Of The Chinese Astrology

News-and-Society Most people are aware of astrology only through the horoscopes printed in daily newspapers. This is called western astrology, but there are other forms that have been created by other cultures in their attempt to to find meaning in a dangerous and unpredictable world. The Chinese astrology calendar, is one of the more fully developed systems, and though it is different in most respects from the western system, the purpose it serves is quite the same. According to Chinese lore, insight into the five elements was brought to humans by the spirits belonging to the five planets, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Mars, and Mercury. In western astrology, elements are also assigned to these planets. The elements in Chinese astrology often mirror those in western astrology, only in an opposite way. Such as the element of water in Chinese astrology being mirrored by air in western astrology. Both systems are based upon a division of the cosmos into twelve houses. In the west these are the .monly known signs in the zodiac, but this Chinese system assigns each division an animal drawn from their mythology and folktales. Unlike the western system where the sign changes on a monthly basis, Chinese signs change each year. There are several stories of how the twelve animals came to be the rulers of the Chinese Zodiac, but the one most often told is that of the contest held by the Jade Emperor of heaven. One day he asked all the animals in the world to .pete in a race where there would be twelve winners. The cat and the rat, who were once good friends (but very bad swimmers) asked the ox if he would let them sit on his back, he agreed and the three of them made their way across the river. When they were almost to the shore the rat decided he wanted to win, so he pushed the cat into the water and jumped off the ox beating him and the cat to the finish. Then the ox climbed out and earned second place after politely scolding the rat for being so rude. The rest of the twelve animals each have a story of how they managed to cross as well. Some used trickery to cheat, others helped each other. Along with the story of how the animals came to represent the years, there are also stories about the stars and planets. These things, coupled with the moon and .ets, play a big role in determining the future of each person who is born. There are many more intricacies and .plexities in this system as opposed to the ones used in western astrology, but they are both utilized in much the same way. Determining patterns and certain events that are likely to take place in one’s future is the goal of both systems. Often people feel a little better about their lives receiving news of things to .e, that they otherwise would not know about. Western astrology seems to deal more with the psychology of things. The Chinese astrology calendar deals more with chances and the possibilities derived from the balance of all things. Predictions in the west tend to be unclear on the of certain things, while the, more .plex, Chinese way is more thorough and .plete. About the Author: 相关的主题文章:
